Blackberry Pear Pie

Crust

3 1/3 C flour

2 Tbsp. sugar

½ Tsp. baking powder

1 ½ C butter, chilled

2/3 C water, chilled

2 Tsp. Vanilla


Filling

4 C blackberries, washed and dried

3 Bartlett pears, peeled and diced

1 C sugar

2 Tbsp. flour

2 egg yolks

2 Tbsp, butter, melted

1 Tsp. vanilla

1 Tsp. almond extract



Mix flour, sugar & baking powder in a food processor.  Pulse in butter till dough is crumbly.  Next add water & vanilla.  Mix until dough comes together.  Mold dough into a ball, wrap in saran wrap & refrigerate for 30 minutes.  For the filling whisk together the yolks, extracts & butter.  Add in the sugar & the flour & mix well.  Mix in the blackberries & pears.  Roll out half of the dough & place it into your pie dish.  Put the filling in and roll out remaining dough.  Cut it into ½ in wide strips and weave them onto the top of the pie.  Place pie in a pre heated oven on the bottom rack at 425 degrees for 10 minutes.  Lower oven temperature to 350 and bake for an additional 40 minutes.  Remove pie from oven and let stand for an hour.
